VIDEO: 2017 Honda CR-V Turbo SUV walk-around tour
In Cars, Honda, Local News, Videos, Walk-Around Videos / By Danny Tan / 13 July 2017 10:50 am / 56 comments

Honda Malaysia (HM) officially introduced the 2017 Honda CR-V yesterday, and we have four variants of the fifth-generation SUV – one base 2.0 NA and three with the 1.5 litre turbo engine. The Melaka-assembled range is as follows: CR-V 2.0L i-VTEC 2WD, CR-V 1.5L Turbo 2WD, CR-V 1.5L Turbo 4WD and the top CR-V 1.5L Turbo Premium 2WD with the Honda Sensing active safety pack.

All the turbo variants are equipped with a 1.5 litre turbocharged VTEC engine. It’s as seen in the Civic, but with output bumped to 193 PS and 243 Nm, 20 PS and 23 Nm more than in the sedan. The base model continues with the R20 naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre i-VTEC motor with 154 PS and 189 Nm. All CR-Vs now get a CVT transmission, which replaces the previous five-speed auto.

Measuring 4,584 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,689 mm tall, the new CR-V is six mm shorter but 35 mm wider and four mm higher than the previous-gen, while the wheelbase has seen an increase of 40 mm, now measuring 2,660 mm.

HM elected to only bring in the five-seat version, and the new car offers best-in-class space, with interior volume bumped up to around the 4,100 litre mark, roughly around 100 litres more than before. Boot space with the second-row rear seats up is 522 litres, and 1,084 litres with the seats folded flat.

Standard equipment across the entire range includes auto LED headlights and LED DRLs and fog lamps, black combination leather seats, walk-away auto door lock, keyless entry with push-start, paddle shifters, dual-zone air-con, rear AC vents, cruise control, auto dimming rear view mirror, eight-way driver powered seat with lumbar support and four-way passenger powered seat.

All CR-V variants also come equipped with an eight-speaker, seven-inch Advanced Display Audio system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and hands-free telephone connectivity. There’s also a full colour LCD meter panel.

The 1.5L Turbo Premium 2WD we feature in this video comes with auto high beam, active cornering lights and a height-adjustable powered tailgate.

Its Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems use a millimetre wave radar in the grille and a monocular camera positioned at the top of the windscreen to provide Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the last working together with a Low Speed Follow (LSF) function.

Check out our walk-around video above, launch report and first impressions of the car. You can also compare the specifications of all the 2017 Honda CR-V variants on CarBase.my.

2.7l – 164hp 245Nm (RM1380) 12l/100km NO STABILITY CONTROL!
1.5l – 190hp 243Nm (RM90) 7l/100km BEST Safety with Honda Sensing

Still using ladder frame & cheap double wishbone , not unibody / macpherson . = rubbish handling

7 seaters people carrier with tall SUV with no Stability control, hurmmmm (2.4 version)
Sorento Diesel got better deal 2.2 197hp 441Nm

7 seaters cramped,small boot space 200l
CRV 5 seaters comfort, 522l boot space
Tiguan 5 seaters comfort, 612l boot space

2 rear seats are almost useless, not comfortable, cramped, seat too straight like P2 Bezza

tips for 7 seaters? get MPV

This car will wipe out all other SUVs in Malaysia. The biggest loser would be Mazda CX5. Already sales have dropped so low and salesman are abandoning the Mazda boat.

Now, this CRV will wipe out Mazda completely from Malaysia. It will be like the 90s again where the name Mazda was non existent despite 80s a big seller.

Bermaz only hope was the CX5 as the Mazda 3 and Madza 6 died. Now with the CRV, Bermaz better close shop

Until today am still pissed that Honda Malaysia doesn’t offer the CR-V 1.5 Turbo Premium with 4WD. And the idiocy of not offering it as a 5+2 seater. It’s almost like HM took some product planners from ETCM. So I cancelled my plan to place a booking. Your loss HM, gotta see if the remaining ETCM product planners woke up yet to think about the Nissan X-Trail facelift (who knows if bloody ETCM would ever bring that in)

Spacious value > X-Trail, Sorento —>> Sorento yes, X-trail is a no no.. if you own one then you know 🙂
Dynamic drive > Tiguan –>> Agreed !!
Good looks > CX5 –>> Nope CX-5 is not a good looking car. At least not for everyone.
Something different > Forester –> no point already loh?
Go pasar > CRV –> Supposed to be high tech. Nothing above come close to this CR-V
Beli pakai buang > Bayu – Well at least people buy lorr 🙂

For me it would be either Kia Sorento or VW Tiguan.
Kia Sorento > Spacious (7 seaters) + Nice exterior design + Solid, comfortable and quiet ride + Powerful turbo-diesel engine
VW Tiguan > Nice interior and exterior design + Good handling
Honda CRV > Safety features are good but the rear exterior design is a big NO for me + the turbo petrol engine seems under-power and definitely more fuel consuming than turbo-diesel

CRV 1.5- high tech , best safety , best FC 7l/100km , good power & torque.
Sorento 2.2d- best value,good safety,very spacious,good specs,good power with high torque
Tiguan 1.4- CRV nearest competitor, lightest, good power & torque, best FC 6.7l/100km , comfort

This 3 models above the best of all.
others are hardly to keep up with them.

biggest dinosaur – Toyota Fortuner but underpower, rubbish handling, rear drum brake ? really ? LOL

Roadtax 1.5(RM100) vs 2.5 (RM830)
warranty Mazda 3 yrs , Honda 5 yrs
CRV 8.8s 0-100kmh , CX-5 9.2s
boot space
522l vs 403l
Honda sensing vs SCBS (diesel only)
CX-5 , no rear AC vent but have BOSE 9 speakers
CR-V , 8 speakers + active cruise control + low speed follow (best things for city driving) + LCD instrument + USB ports x4 + power sockets x3 (so much convenient)

Anti-Honda detected & butthurt ;p
Give it a positive feedback, other brand SUVs will follow.

So far the best presenter i watch is Harvinder Singh Sidhu.. the way he expresses in words and description is much more natural and fluidic..

Please, Paultan.org, bring Harvinder to all the video reviews, that is one genius presenter there! Where is your common sense and logic?

Kudos to Honda for bringing the complete safety features to a family SUV! Audi, Merc and BMW in Malaysia don’t have this on offer on their SUV lines that cost easily RM100k more. Even keyless entry is not standard! If more car brands start to offer a more complete package for the price they vharge, this is the true spirit of free market competition. Now u know which car brands only optimize profit by offering low spec priducts!

Yes, it will b even better if they give us a choice whether v need a 7 seater or whether we need a premium spec for d 4 wheel drive. Don’t give us d crap abt yr survey. It’s just an excuse to keep d margin high by providing less!
I will normally keep d 3rd row down but when my grandchildren visit, I will put it up. Then I don’t need to hv to use 2 cars to sent everyone out for meals or visits

Good car even at the base 142k. All leathers, led etc. If you want the AWD then go for the 161k model. Only bad thing for top of the line why no AWD. I would personally go for the 161k model and the CVT is superb. If you are driving the HRV or new Civic the pickup is really good. Was driving from SG to KL yesterday with the CX3 left in my wake at 195 to 200

VW TIGUAN on Jul 14, 2017 at 12:30 pm
Booked VW Tiguan at April 2017 and waited almost three months now. At the end told me the forecast delivery date on December 2017.
Asked for drop out order, but the car no yet arrive also, fastest arrival on October (cancelled order who booked at March, before launch).
No choice but to cancel my order and purchase Honda CRV, which is ready stock.
Tiguan is slightly better in term of dynamic (handling is best in class and german engineering), good product but poor product planning, marketing and after sale service.
I believe many people who booked the Tiguan will change to CRV now, good job VPCM, you guys have a good start but end up boost your competitors sale.
