FIRST DRIVE: Volkswagen Vento 1.2 TSI Highline
In Cars, Local News, Videos, Volkswagen / By Jonathan Lee / 15 May 2018 10:20 am / 9 comments

The Volkswagen Vento has been on sale for a while now, but we thought it would be a good idea to bring you a new video review of the B-segment sedan, which competes with the Honda City and Toyota Vios for your hard-earned cash. It’s a cutthroat market segment dominated by the Japanese players, and Wolfsburg is taking a second swing at it with what is essentially a facelifted Polo Sedan.

Facelifted it may be, but carries a number of changes under its mildly warmed-over styling. The biggest of which is a new engine option – a new 1.2 litre turbocharged TSI engine from the old fully-imported (CBU) Polo hatch. Replacing the old 1.6 litre naturally-aspirated mill on this Highline model, it makes the same 105 PS as its predecessor, but punches out an extra 22 Nm of torque at 175 Nm.

Sending all that power to the road is, yes, a seven-speed dry dual-clutch transmission. Other new features include stability control for the Highline to join the existing four airbags and ABS, as well as LED headlights and a touchscreen RCD 330G infotainment system introduced last year.

But what’s it like as an everyday proposition? Watch the video above to know more about the new Volkswagen Vento 1.2 TSI Highline, as well as the way it drives. You can also read our written review here, and browse full specifications and equipment on

105ps, dry clutch, four airbags… this a joke?

Next time if want to compete with T & H, think wisely!

Need to smile more, frown less and be less serious looking. Looked so angry so much so that my mood turned sourish after watching. And did I miss anything about fuel consumption?

Borgward reveals BX6 SUV coupe, electric BXi7 – plans exports to Middle East, South America, ASEAN
In Borgward, Cars, International News / By Danny Tan / 15 May 2018 9:27 am / 5 comments

Borgward, the Chinese-owned old German brand, revealed two new models last week – the BX6 ‘GT SUV’ and the BXi7 electric SUV.

The BX6 is a described as a ‘GT SUV’ with a fastback shape, not unlike the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Previewed by the Projekt BX6 TS concept car from Geneva 2016, the BX6 sports “eagle wing-shaped” tail lamps, eagle eye-shaped headlights and 19-inch alloys. It should be based on the BX5, a conventionally-shaped compact SUV which interior you see here.

The BX6 is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine with 221 hp and 300 Nm, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. Power is channeled to both axles via a “4Max” 4WD system. The Borgward with the sloping roof will not just be sold in China – there are plans to launch it in the Middle East and South America before the end of this year, and ASEAN in early 2019.

The BXi7 is, as its BMW-style name suggests, an electric version of the Borgward BX7. The SUV is powered by two independent motors with combined torque of 390 Nm, which is good for 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 195 km/h. Borgward says that the motors have 94.5% efficiency and a battery pack that maintains high performance at temperatures ranging from -30ºC to +55ºC. The BXi7, which has a range of up to 375 km, can be charged up to 80% in 45 minutes.

The regular Borgward BX5 and BX7 SUVs were recently previewed in Malaysia ahead of a launch expected to happen in the third quarter of this year. Local specifications are yet to be finalised, but on-site reps at the preview mentioned that the BX5 will be “under RM100k,” while the BX7 will go for “under RM200k.”

Borgward, which was formed in 1919 before going bankrupt in 1961, was resurrected in 2015 – the brand is owned by Chinese automaker Beiqi Foton Motor, a subsidiary of the BAIC Group. The BX7, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015, marked the brand’s return on to the scene.

Danny Tan loves driving as much as he loves a certain herbal meat soup, and sweet engine music as much as drum beats. He has been in the auto industry since 2006, previously filling the pages of two motoring magazines before joining this website. Enjoys detailing the experience more than the technical details.
